Safe Cats of Barbados operates a Trap, Neuter Release (TNR) program to humanely manage the stray population. TNR is the only evidence-based method of stabilizing the stray population and maintaining healthy colonies;
-
To work with hotels, restaurants and resorts to help manage their stray cat population and keep cats and guests happy and healthy. Cats become an asset in controlling rodents, bugs and other pests;
-
To find loving homes for cats and kittens abandoned on the streets;
-
To educate and assist pet owners in their efforts to take care of their animals effectively and safely;
-
To provide assistance to animals in need whatever their circumstances;
-
To arrange travel escorts to the United States where these beauties have loving homes waiting.
-
To assist visitors who wish to take home a kitty. UK, USA or Canada.

WE NEED YOUR HELP.
WE ARE VOLUNTEER-RUN AND DONATION-FUNDED. PLEASE HELP US HELP THEM.
Rescue
Barbados is inundated with stray cats. Many are abused or neglected and left on the streets to die.We are constantly being called out to rescue cats in dire situations: a mother cat and her five newborn kittens duct-taped to a garbage can; five newborn kittens taped up in a box and left to die in the blazing sun. All living creatures deserve to be treated with kindness but cats are often hurt in violent attacks, injured by cars or stray dogs. We are dedicated to helping save those in danger.
Adoption
Over the year we have been in operation we have found homes for more than 200 cats. The good people of Barbados open their hearts and their homes to the many cats we rescue. We still have many more looking for their forever homes. Click below to see some of the beautiful cats and kittens looking for loving homes.
Since March 2023 we have also sent more than 130 cats to loving homes in the USA, the UK and Canada.

TNR
Cats that are not neutered can have up to eight litters a year. In the space of just seven years, a mating pair and its kittens can produce 420,000 kittens! This is why Trap Neuter Release is vital. A population whose growth is out of control can pose a public health risk not to mention the incredible suffering of these beautiful animals. TNR is the only humane way to manage these colonies and turn them into assets in the community managing the population of disease-carrying rats and other rodents. "Removing" them doesn't work--more will just take their place. Cats that are neutered also are less likely to fight, or make screeching noises at night, and will help protect your property from other cats that are not neutered.
We can help you (individuals, communities, hotels, resorts and restaurants) safely manage your stray cat populations--but we need your help. It costs $100 minimum to spay a female cat, $50 to neuter a male. Please make a donation to help us help these cats and the communities who support them.
